Free Software for Enterprising Developers!
- One developer
- One computer
- Two CPUs
- 100GB data
The Express license is for individual developers. It is limited to use on one computer with at most 2 CPUs and can hold up to 100GB of content. It includes options that make sense on a single computer (geospatial, alerting, conversion) and does not include options intended for clusters or enterprise usage (e.g., replication).
There are a few restrictions:
- It may not be used in concert with any other licensed copy of MarkLogic Server.
- It is specifically not for work on U.S. Federal Government programs.
- You can't use multiple copies of Express to make your own cluster.
- You can't run multiple production copies of Express for the same application.
- A single copy of Express can't be shared by a team of developers.
Frequently Asked Questions about Express
Q. Can I use Express in production?
Q. Can I try features not available via Express or try more than 100GB for free?
A. Yes, if you need additional features (e.g., more data, clustering, replication), contact MarkLogic.
Q. Can Express be used in a VM or cloud (like Amazon ec2)?
Q. Can I build an application on MarkLogic Express and sell that application?
A. You can, but you can't distribute the MarkLogic Server binary (or any MarkLogic license) as part of that application without written permission from MarkLogic.
Q. Can I have a second copy for staging/test work if I go production on Express?
A. Yes, we allow this.
Q. Can I use a MarkLogic Express license to do development work on an application that will run in production using a different MarkLogic license?
