I think I'm using XCC. I'm getting the failure both when using MarkLogic 
as a data source through Oxygen, configured to use the XCC Jar and from 
our Java code that uses the same XCC jar.

I didn't see anything that looked like an error message in the error 
log, just messages about merging.
