[MarkLogic Dev General] index switching

Hi  ,
I know that operation like create will be fast with out indexing and read will be fast with indexing .Is there any way with Xquery to mention not to use default index when inserting xml data in marklogic .
 
Also like to know which indexing is best suited in environment where search is based on value of an element in xml.
