[MarkLogic Dev General] How to balance forest sizes when adding new cluster member

I could imagine though that MarkLogic has a built-in algorithm to keep
forest more or less balanced automatically. Not sure. In that case, you
would just have to have a bit of patience..

Kind regards,

Geert

Hi Danny,

Apart from actually moving data, you could toggle with the
read-only/delete-only marker on Forests on the other hosts. But you could
decrease performance if all writing is done on that new host only (during
the period necessary to give an equal size).

There is also a programmatic option, but that likely requires doing code
changes. You can add specific forest ids to xdmp:document-insert, and
direct new documents to the new forest. Or have an algoritm pass in two
forest ids with smallest size which you could calculate dynamically..

Kind regards,

Geert

Hello,

Is there a way to balance the forest sizes across all nodes when adding a
new cluster node ?

Regards,
Danny
