Perhaps add an element like <original-uri> or <source-uri> that keeps the id or key that is the alias. It wouldn't have to be a uri for that matter...

I have one document with a particular name that I want to keep but I'd
also like to reference that document via another name. I know I can
use collections to get most of what I want but I was just curious if
there was a way as it seems the concept of aliases may be useful?
