On November 13, 2019, MarkLogic Server version 8 reached End-of-Life. In an effort to continuously enhance and improve our product offering, it may become necessary as a part of MarkLogic’s product lifecycle to declare that a particular product or product configuration (e.g. a particular operating system release) is at the “end of life” stage; therefore, MarkLogic reserves the right to desupport that product or product configuration. End-of-Life Notices generally are available 12 months in advance of the desupport date.
Desupport Notices are provided to registered support contacts by email. Desupport Notices contain desupport dates, information about availability of Maintenance Support, and information about migration paths for certain features.
For customers running versions of MarkLogic software prior to version 9, MarkLogic will not be in a position to issue new license keys for such versions after December 31, 2020.

When Upgrading from Previous Release, you must uninstall the old release of MarkLogic on your machine before proceeding with the new installation. For information on removing the software, see Removing MarkLogic and the Installation Guide from the previous release. You will find the Upgrading from MarkLogic 8 documentation helpful in this process.
There are some known incompatibilities between MarkLogic 8 and MarkLogic 10. You might need to make some minor code changes to your MarkLogic 8 applications before they can run correctly in MarkLogic 10. For details on the incompatibilities, see Known Incompatibilities with Previous Releases. For instructions on upgrading to MarkLogic 10, including information about database compatibility between MarkLogic 8 and MarkLogic 10, see the Installation Guide.
If you are upgrading from MarkLogic 8 to MarkLogic 9, some applications will require minor changes to run correctly on MarkLogic 9. For details, see Known Incompatibilities with Previous Releases.
If you are upgrading to MarkLogic 9.0-4 or later, you may have to install MarkLogic Converters package separately. For more details, see MarkLogic Converters Installation Changes Starting at Release 9.0-4 in the Installation Guide. If you upgrade to MarkLogic 9.0-5 or later from an earlier version of MarkLogic 9 and you use a geospatial region index, you need to reindex. All of the latest MarkLogic Server maintenance releases are always available from the Downloads section of our website. The list of third party and open source components in MarkLogic Server are available in our Combined Product Notice. When upgrading, please remember to follow the upgrade instructions and visit the Admin UI (default port 8001) to complete the upgrade.
Please place a Support ticket a week or so BEFORE you upgrade with all the pertinent information and a support dump. Our Support engineers will guide you to documentation that will give you best practices and be ready in case there is a problem so we may serve you quicker.
